What is the meaning of Clitoral Hoodoplasty?
Clitoral hoodoplasty or clitoral hood reduction or clitoral hoodectomy is a surgical procedure done for the removal of the excess tissue that covers or surrounds the clitoris. The clitoris is a part of the female external genitalia called the vulva. It is the most sensitive and erogenous zone for female sexual pleasure. The clitoral hood is the fold of the skin surrounding the head of the clitoris. It protects the sensitive clitoris from rubbing or friction. The size, shape, and color of the clitoral hood vary in different women. The clitoral hood may appear enlarged in some women, that is, they may have excess skin that may look unaesthetic or lead to sexual problems. This is also known as excess prepuce. These women may opt for a clitoral hood reduction or clitoral hoodoplasty procedure. In this article, we will be discussing in detail about clitoral hoodoplasty surgery.

- The procedure is done by making an incision using a laser, scalpel, or by radiofrequency.
- The surgeon cuts out the excess tissue of the clitoral folds, exposing the acorn of the clitoris and enabling the stimulation of the clitoris during intercourse.
- The incision is then closed using stitches (sutures). Since it is a sensitive area, most surgeons prefer using dissolvable sutures.
