Introduction

Dr. B.R. Ramesh Rao is one of the best Nephrologist/Renal Specialist in Mumbai with an experience of over 3 decades in this field. His first assignment on Nephrology started at JJ Hospital Bombay during his residency programme in General Medicine. During this stint, Dr. Rao successfully managed patients with renal failure and general nephrological disorders. He became well conversant with the techniques of haemo and peritoneal dialysis. Later, he joined Renal Unit at Guy’s Hospital in London under Prof. Stewart Cameron. Hospital's Renal Unit is internationally renowned for its excellent care of the renal patients. Dr. Rao was actively involved in the management of patients with renal disease, renal failure and transplantation both as in and outpatients. He also learned a great deal about transplant immunology, CAPD, CAVHD, CAVH and other modalities of dialysis. During this time, he was regular in attending all renal seminars, renal biopsy, scan and radiology meetings. After spending a year with Guy’s Hospital, Dr. Rao joined Dulwich Hospital King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry (London) as Registrar in Nephrology. His responsibilities included care and management of renal transplant patients, teaching and guiding the SHOs. It is at this hospital, Dr. Rao learnt and performed CAVHD, CAVH, CVVHD, Plasmaphoresis and Immuno- Adsorption. He has also spent some time with King Khalid Hospital (Hafr-al-Batin, Saudi Arabia) as Resident (Nephrology). Dr. Rao has been regularly participating in various case presentations, panel discussion & lectures organised at Bombay Nephrology Group, various medical associations of the city and hospital.
