Lung cancer surgery is the removal of cancerous tissue from the lung which involves surgical excision.
Lobectomy: in this a lobe or section of the lungs is removed usually when the cancer is confined to a lobe or section of the lung. There are chances of recurrence.
Wedge Resection or Segmentectomy: In this only a small portion of a lobe of the lung is removed. It is done in patients who are unfit for lobectomy or pneumectomy. Much of the tissue remains intact while there is always a chance of recurrence.
Pneumectomy it involves removing one entire lung, especially when it has spread to multiples lobes. One can lead a healthy life with one lung also.
