Introduction

Dr. Pinak Ashok Shrikhande has a rich experience of more than 16 years in the field of Critical Care and has been instrumental in starting the Department at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj. He completed his MD and DNB in Resp Med from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, in Jun 1999 following which he did his Senior Residency Program in the Dept. of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. Dr. Pinak Ashok Shrikhande joined in Critical Care Medicine, Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital in 2006. He joined this hospital right at its inception and hence has been involved in the setting up of the whole ICU complex. Between Oct 2007 to Oct 2008, Dr. Pinak Ashok Shrikhande was also involved in managing the Critical Care Unit at Fortis Escorts Hospital, New Delhi where he co-managed 18 critical care beds along with the Cardiology Team. The ICU lead by him has one of the best outcomes in the treatment of critically ill patients with consistently lower mortalities than those predicted by the APACHE II scoring. It also has an excellent infection control program in ICU demonstrated by incidence ventilator associated pneumonias and blood stream infections in the ICU lower than international standards. The ICU offers state of the art critical care services across a range of specialties from cardiac and neurosurgery to sickest of patients presenting with septic shock and multi organ failure and severe ARDS.
