Introduction

Dr. Shrinivas Desai is synonymous with advancement in Radiology in India. He is Director and Head of Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre since 1984. With the belief in strengthening health delivery system in India and the zeal to cure people with utmost care, compassion and dignity, he has always encouraged bringing in new advanced technology at people’s service. He initiated the next level of Radiology care by bringing in state of the art Technologies like MRI, Spiral CT Scan, Interventional Radiology, Single Source Dual Energy CT Scan, PET CT services changing the Imaging scenario in the country. Dr. Desai believes that advancement of medical science is empowering people with a wide basket of choice, and with this noble thought he revolutionized the way India thought about body tumours. He pioneered in bringing path-breaking cutting edge, non-invasive technology, MRgFUS (MR Guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery) for the first time in India and this part of Asia. Different body tumours like uterine fibroids, uterine adenomyosis, primary and metastatic bone tumours, prostate cancer and lumbar facet arthropathy are treated with MRgFUS, without any cut, general anaesthesia or radiation. Despite achieving great feats in professional carrier he still is in search of excellence by working relentlessly with various national and international research bodies, dedicating his life towards advancement in medical field, and providing his patient the best possible care.

His academic Journey in Medical field started with Grant Medical college & G.S. Medical College, followed by various National & International fellowships done in Manchester University, UK, Lariboisier Hospital, Paris, France, University of California, San Francisco, USA; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA; St. Mary’s Hospital, London, UK; in Neuroradiology, MRI, Interventional Radiology and MRgFUS to name a few.
