Rhinoplasty is surgery that alters the shape of the nose. The surgery can change the size, shape or proportions of your nose and may be done to correct a birth defect, repair deformities from an injury, or improve some breathing difficulties.

Nose job or rhinoplasty may be needed by someone who has deformed nose due to an injury or birth defect or by someone who needs improvement in breathing difficulties.

Rhinoplasty carries risks such as:

• Infection
• Bleeding
• An adverse reaction to the anesthesia.
• Other complications related to rhinoplasty are:
• The possibility of an uneven-looking nose
• Difficulty breathing through your nose
• Pain, discoloration or swelling that may persist
• Scarring
• A hole in the septum
• Permanent numbness in and around your nose
• A need for additional surgery

You may feel a little pain due to swelling and other side effects. But rhinoplasty is not painful for most people.

• Reduction Rhinoplasty - It is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and reconstructing the form, restoring the functions, and aesthetically enhancing the nose by resolving nasal trauma, respiratory impediment, congenital defect, or a failed primary rhinoplasty.
• Augmentation Rhinoplasty - A cosmetic surgery performed to increase the size of special parts of a person’s nose. It is done with an aim to give the nose a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
• Post-Traumatic Rhinoplasty - A procedure to address injuries to the nose that can lead to deformation, damaged airways, broken bones, and lost cartilage support.
• Reconstructive Rhinoplasty - It is done to restore tissue of the nose that is absent or has been damaged beyond repair.
• Refinement Rhinoplasty - It is usually done to fine-tune the nasal tip in a more pleasing fashion.
• Revision Rhinoplasty - A surgical procedure performed to repair both the form and function of a previously operated nose.
• Turbinoplasty - It is done to decrease the size of the turbinates.
• Alarplasty - It is the reshaping of the sides of the nose at the bottom.

It takes about 3 to 4 months for the majority of the swelling of the nose to go away, and it can take as long as one year for the final shape of the nose to become apparent.

• Pain after Surgery
• Swelling (Around eyes and nose)
• Bruising (Usually around eyes)

• Avoid strenuous activities (aerobics and jogging).
• While you have bandages on your nose, take baths instead of showers.
• Not blow your nose.
• Eat high-fiber foods.
• Avoid extreme facial expressions.
• Brush your teeth gently.
• Wear clothes that fasten in the front.

If there are nasal packs involved, then you will have them for 2 to 7 days, and a cast for 5 to 10 days.

If it is done properly under the right hands, the results obtained post surgery lasts a lifetime.

Cosmetically altering your appearance which is a practice still largely uncommon in India, and a nose job, in India, can cost anywhere between Rs 40,000 to Rs 2 lakh.

Septoplasty is a surgery to improve breathing by straightening the wall inside the nose called nasal septum that divides the nasal passages into a right and a left side. It is hard to breathe with a crooked nasal septum. A septoplasty is often combined with a rhinoplasty.
