Dr. Deepak Chhabra is a consultant Surgical Oncologist with an extensive experience in cancer surgeries. After completing his Masters in Surgery (from the prestigious T.N.Medical College and B.Y.L Nair Hospital in Mumbai) and Diplomate from the National Board of Examinations, he subsequently received his specialist oncosurgical training at Mumbai. During his training of cancer surgeries, he also passed the Membership examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He has a Fellowship in GI surgical Oncology and has been associated with the Department of Surgical Oncology at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai for more than 10 years. In order to become further experienced, he went to Nagoya University, Japan and trained himself in complex Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgeries under the expert guidance of Prof. Yuji Nimuraa pioneer in the field of complex liver surgeries. His research work on gallbladder cancers was in the award paper sessions at the World Congress of IHPBA in 2008.

Dr. Deepak Chhabra is updated with most of the current advanced technologies in the field of cancer surgeries. His special interest is in treatment of gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers (cancer of pancreas, liver, bile-ducts and gallbladder). Major gastric (stomach and food pipe) resections, liver resections, radiofrequency ablation for liver tumors, pancreatic resections, colonic (intestine) resections and sphincter saving surgeries for low rectal cancers are being performed regularly by him. Breast cancer surgeries, utero-ovarian cancer surgeries and chemotherapy port placements are a routine part of his practice as well.

He has published many papers in National & International Peer review journals and has contributed to book chapters as well. Many articles have been presented by him at various national and international conferences. He has been an invited speaker for many surgical oncology discussions in Mumbai and rest of India. He has been a co-investigator for various research trials related to gastrointestinal cancers and neuroendocrine tumors of gastrointestinal system. He was the first clinical co-ordinator of the Asia-Pacific Neuroendocrine tumor registry (AP-NET registry) in India.
