Introduction

Dr Madan Bahadur is a top Nephrologist and Transplant Physician currently attached to the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, as a Consultant Nephrologist in charge of the Department of Nephrology & Dialysis. After receiving the MD postgraduate degree in Medicine from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal University (1984), Dr. Bahadur worked as a Physician (AMO) at a Tribal Health Unit in Harrai, and later at Saunser in Madhya Pradesh State Services for a year. Subsequently he worked as Internist/Intensivist (Divisional Medical Officer) with Indian Railway hospitals at Bombay, Nagpur and Bina (1986–1991). From 1992, Dr. Madan Bahadur was in charge of the Department of Nephrology at Dr. Babasaheb Memorial Hospital, a tertiary referral facility for Central Railway at Mumbai. He also managed an urban Diabetic clinic with 1,300 registered patients. Dr. M M Bahadur helped develop innovative clinical software for a computerised registry and did real-time management of the Renal & Diabetic patients on this model. Dr. Bahadur then completed the DNB Nephrology course and training while working as Clinical Assistant from 1997–99 at Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai. Since March 2003, he has been in charge of the Department of Nephrology & Dialysis Unit at Jaslok. This department has been doing Renal transplants since the last 25 years, and is one of the oldest centres in India. Dr. Bahadur presently heads the unit, doing transplants and dealing with all types of Nephrology patients with ailments of varying complexity. Dr. Bahadur has presented a number of papers at national and international academic meetings and has been invited as a guest speaker at various Nephrology forums and conferences. He has also participated as the Principal Investigator / Clinical Associate in four international drug trials.
