Achalasia is a rare condition where the esophagus ( food pipe ) is not able to pass the food and liquids down to the stomach. In this condition the LES ( lower esophageal sphincter ) of the food pipe does not open adequately, because of which the food gets stuck in the lower part of the food pipe.
