ZSR circumcision Surgery

ZSR circumcision involves the use of minimal incisions to remove the penile foreskin. A stapler-like device, known as an anastomat or circumcision stapler, is used during this procedure to reduce the possibility of complications and reduce post-operative bleeding.

Know More About Surgery

A ZSR circumcision surgery may be recommended in the following cases:

  1. Swelling and redness in the foreskin
  2. Itchiness or dryness in the foreskin
  3. Pain or discomfort while urinating
  4. Pain and/or bleeding while retracting the penile foreskin
  5. Presence of a white ring around the penis head
  6. Foreskin stuck in one place
  7. Foul discharge on the penis tip
  8. Aesthetic dissatisfaction with the appearance of the penile foreskin
  9. Religious or social reasons
  1. Physical examination: The doctor will evaluate your physical health to check if you are fit for the surgery.
  2. Urinalysis: It is a type of laboratory test performed to check the concentration, appearance, and content of the patient’s urine to check if the patient has any urinary tract infections, kidney problems, etc.
  3. Tissue culture: If there is any discharge from the penis, this discharge is cultured and checked for any signs of bacterial or fungal infections.
  4. Blood tests: Blood tests like random blood sugar and bleeding tests can help in the detection of any systemic health conditions.

  1. The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia (the treatment area is numbed) or general anesthesia (the patient is made unconscious during the procedure).
  2. The penis is disinfected and the stapler is then fitted on the penis.
  3. The stapler device should be fitted properly on the penis to avoid tearing the foreskin and protect the penis gland from the surgery blade.
  4. The stapler is then triggered, that is, the foreskin is removed and the incision is closed using a silicone ring at the same time.
  5. The device is then unscrewed and removed.
  6. The penis is pressed using gauze to stop bleeding.
  7. The wound is then dressed using a compression bandage.
  8. The procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

The risks associated with ZSR circumcision surgery are:

  1. Bleeding
  2. Pain
  3. Wound infection
  4. Edema (swelling)
  5. Residual staples (staples that do not fall on their own within one or two weeks)
  6. Wound dehiscence (failure of the wound edges to close properly)

  • You will be discharged on the same day of the surgery.
  • The penis may look red, swollen, and bruised for a few days after surgery.
  • You may have some pain after the surgery. The doctor will prescribe pain-relieving medications to relieve your discomfort.
  • Follow-up appointment with the doctor for wound inspection is recommended two to three days after surgery.
  • During the follow-up visit, the compression bandage will be removed and the surgical site is examined for any signs of infection or bleeding. The wound is then left open to recover.
  • The silicone ring that is left in the penis will fall on its own within 10 to 14 days once the incision has healed properly.

Home remedies:

The following home remedies can help in improving recovery following a ZSR circumcision surgery:

  • Maintain good hygiene and pat dry the penis every time you wash it.
  • Wash the penis using lukewarm water and then pat dry it.
  • Do not wear tight-fitting underwear immediately after the procedure to keep the surgical gauze in place. Instead, wear loose-fitting underwear and apply petroleum jelly to prevent the penis from sticking to the underwear.
  • Avoid sex and masturbation for at least three to four weeks after surgery.
  • Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting during the recovery period.
  • Clean the wound at least two times a day.
  • Avoid alcohol and tobacco consumption during the recovery period.
  • Do not rub the penis harshly.
