After obtaining the MBBS degree and completing her internship from BJ Medical College in Pune, Dr. Shah moved to Govt. Medical College and Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad Hospital, Vadodara, for a 3-year residency culminating in the MD (Medicine) postgraduate degree. Dr Dhara Nimish Shah then completed a 3-year residency at Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Mumbai, for the DNB (Neurology) title of the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. Dr. Shah passed all her exams in the First Division and at the first attempt, and also was a rank holder in entrance exams at the first attempt.
